[news] New Home for Chenegans-When the Great Earthquake Hit a Year Ago, the Village of Chenega Was Wiped out. We Residents out of 76 Lost Their Lives When a Huge Seismic Wave Struck the Tiny Settlement. The Survivors Were Moved Tatitlek, 60 Miles Away, Where the Bureau of Indian Affairs Built New Homes for Them. the Photo Shows the Village to Tatitlek Where the Chenegans Now Live. Army Engineers Have Also Expanded the Harbor to Moor the Enlarged Fishing Fleet. Just before the Seismic Wave Hit, the Chenegans Heard a Sucking Sound and some Survivors Said it Also Sounded like a Sigh. Some Said it Was like a Squeak like Rubber Being Squeezed.
