[news] Juneau, AK, - The Honolulu-Based Coast Guard Mellon Has Arrived at Kodiak March 3 for a Two-Day Port Call before Beginning a 40-Day Patrol of Alaska's Fisheries. The 378-Foot Mellon is Shown Above Patrolling a Soviet Shrimp Fishing Fleet off the Alaska Peninsula in April, 1972. The Mellon's Patrol is Part of a Year-Round Surveillance of Alaska's Fisheries by the U.S. Coast Guard and National Marine Fisheries Service to Ensure Compliance of U.S. Laws, Treaties, and Agreements by Foreign Fishing Vessels. The Cutter Mellon is Commanded by Captain B.L. Stabile. His Crew Includes More than 150 Enlisted Men and Officers.
