[news] Eskimo Eyewitness of Crash-Clare Okpeaha, Left, Was the Last Man to See Will Rogers and Wiley Post Alive Minutes before Their Plane Crashed on August 15, 1935 Killing the Two Famous Men. The Crash Point Was 12 Miles from Barrow Which Was Their Destination. The Two Men Had Landed at Okpeaha's Camp in Inclement Weather to Inquire Where Barrow Was. The Plane Crashed Moments after it Was Airborne. Okpeaha, Now over 70 Old, Ran the 12 Miles to Tell of the Tragic News. Okpeaha is Shown with Sadie Brower Neakok, City Magistrate at Barrow, Center, and Gerald Miller, Coordinator of the Alaska Poverty Program for the Fairbanks and Interior Areas, Who Was in Barrow to Assist with Various Programs under the Alaska Office of Economic Opportunity.
