[news] Scout Enlistees-Twenty-Two Young Men from Alaska Villages Were Enlisted into the Alaska National Guard Scout Battalions by Adjutant General Major General William S. Elmore Recently in the Largest Mass Enlistment Conducted in the State in Several Years. the Ceremony, Hild at Camp Carroll, outside Anchorage, Preceded the Departure of Most of the Men for Fort Lewis, Washington, Where They Will Undergo Basic Combat Training at the US Army Training Center. The Group Included 17 Men Who Will be Members of the 1st Scout Battalion, Which Operates North of the Yukon River. the Remainder Will be Assigned to the 2nd Scouts in the Bethel Area. Those Going to 1st Scout Battalion Are: John Sinnok, Shishmaref; Hugh Tazruk, Barrow; Sammy Agiak, Barrow; Paul Washington, St. Michael; Edward Lee, Shungnak; Melvin Lee, Shungnak; Reginal Cleveland, Shungnak; Peter Andrews, St. Michael; Isaac Kiyukook, Savoonga; John Barger, Noatak; Bert Jones, Selawik; Hendy Ballot, Selawik; Edward Nunpigak, Barrow; Peter Frankson, St. Michael; Lawrence Roberts, Venetie; and James Toovak, Barrow. Those Going to 2nd Scout Battalion Are: Andrew Olick, Kwethluk; George Arkanakayak, Togiak; Louie Chikoyak, Tununak; Yago Petluska, Napaskiak; and Robert Hoffman, Bethel.
