[news] Kiana Welders - These Welders from the Village of Kiana Have Earned a Total of 132 Certifications in a Call Offered by Chukchi Community College at Kotzebue. The 60-Hour Class Took the Students from Beginning Welding through as Many Types of Certifications as They Were Able to Complete. Class Subjects Included Arc, Oly-Acetylene, Bronze, Mig and Tig Welding in the Flat, Horizontal, Vertical and Overhead Positions. at the End of ;the Course, an Inspector ;from the Welding Institute of Alaska Was Brought in for Certification. for Each Certification the Students Accomplished, They Received Credit from the University of Alaska. The Class is Offered in Response to a New State Law Which Requires That a Person be Certified If He or She is to Receive Compensation While Welding. the Manuneluk Association Supported the Class with Purchase of Supplies and Payment of Tuition for Eligible Students through CETA Grants. Equipment for This Course is Designed to be Compact Enough to Ship Anywhere a Class May be Taught.
